Why Chiron in Aries Matters this Eclipse Season

The April 8th Eclipse in Aries will happen in an exact conjunction with the asteroid Chiron.

To understand the impact of Chiron in your natal chart as well as Chiron in transit. you need to understand the myth behind Chiron’s namesake.

The term transit is used to refer to the movement of a planet through the constellations. For example the suns transit through the sign of Aries takes roughly 28 days.

The Greek figure Chiron is a half man half horse demi-god, who’s parents Kronos and Philyra both abandoned him after child birth do to shame and disgust for his appearance. At the start of Chiron’s story he inherits a heavy karma from the actions of his conception.

He was taken in by Apollo, the sun god who taught him the art of medicine, herbs, music, archery, hunting, gymnastics, and prophecy, and made him rise above his beastly nature. Chiron was known for his knowledge and skill with medicine, and thus was credited with the discovery of botany and pharmacy, the science of herbs and medicine.

Although a centaur, Chiron’s physical appearance often differs somewhat from other centaurs, demonstrating his status and heritage. In traditional Greek representations of Chiron his front legs are human, rather than equine. This is in contrast to the traditional representation of centaurs, which have the entire lower body of a horse. This Made Chiron stand out physically as well as with his demeanor. Traditionally centaurs in Greek myth are described as wild, unclothed, lusty, overly indulgent drinkers and carousers, violent when intoxicated, and generally uncultured delinquents.

By honing his mind, Chiron was able to transcend stereotypes and create his own identity.

Later in life Chiron was pierced by an arrow treated with the blood of the hydra, this left a wound that was uncurable but could not kill him since he is immortal. Chiron spent the remainder of his life looking for a cure. He was unsuccessful in treating his own wound but was able to heal many others in his pursuits. This is where he gets his wounded healer title.

At the end of his life, he is able to get Hercules to convince Zeus to exchange his immortality with Prometheus so he could die and be at peace. Zeus took pity on him and placed him amongst the stars to be remembered forever as the constellation Centaurus.

Chiron’s story is tragic, Ironic, impactful, and endearing. While we are not immortal, and we have not been hit by an actual poison arrow. We all have deep wounds that we are dealing with. In our pursuit to master the more shameful, guilty, and . are able to in turn help others with similar afflictions.

Chiron can be associated with the feelings of: shame, guilt, pain, vulnerability, and can also be used as an overall health indicator.

So if you are feeling low energy, depressed, unsure, and/or lost. It’s okay, slow down or rest if you need to. You don’t have to have everything figured out right now. (you can thank mercury retrograde for that one) However, you do need to take the time to get in touch with yourself and your wants and needs. In the time around this eclipse, what are the things that are triggering you? good or bad. What makes you angry? Why? understanding those feelings are the secret to unlocking the wisdom of this eclipse and the Chiron transit in Aries.

In the coming weeks we have an opportunity to have a cathartic release, as an effect of the self reflection of the Eclipse. This is so we can move fearlessly into the future in spite of all of the reasons people tell us that we shouldn’t.
